This has got to be it – single of the week. All the elements work together to create a perfect example of direct and pulsating loud pop. There’s a vehement, gritty vocal, a chorus that lifts and falls, and an economy and energy to the playing that simply wrenches your attention. It goes straight to the point and should go straight up the charts. (Record Mirror, 28/03/81)

Run straight after SLF’s name, that song title has an oddly ominous ring to it. This group will have to fight hard, I should think, to maintain a place for itself in the post-punk world. “Just Fade Away” won’t help them much.

It’s an ordinary little song, about nothing much in particular, saved only by the reliable drive and coarse abrasive power of the Jake Burns/SLF approach. Already you can sense the law of diminishing returns setting in. (NME, 28/03/81)
