A-Side: Love
B-Side: Give Me Some Truth

Record label: Parlophone R 6059

original recordings 1970 | 1971

Released: 12/11/82

The single was released to promote the compilation album The John Lennon Collection. The single version is a remix of the original track, which most notably differs in having the piano intro and outro (played by Phil Spector) mixed at the same volume as the rest of the song in an attempt to make it radio-friendly; on the original album version, these parts begin much quieter and increase in volume.

An alternate take of the song appears on the John Lennon Anthology box set.

“Give Me Some Truth” taken from the album ‘Imagine.’

The picture on the sleeve of the single was taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz in December 1980 – within days of Lennon’s murder.

The industry rolls on. I can’t believe that this maudlin gush does any great service to the memory of a good man. “Love is real/Real is love/Love is feeling/Feeling is love” – well, of course, but we all know it’s not as simple as that and so did he.

A cheap shot at the seasonal goodwill that spreads hypocritically over a Godless country once a year so everybody doesn’t feel so bad at being ill-tempered the rest of the time. (NME, 06/11/82)
