THE UNDERTONES

The Undertones | You’ve Got My Number (Why Don’t You Use It!) | Sire | 1979

A-Side: You’ve Got My Number (Why Don’t You Use It!)
B-Side: Let’s Talk About Girls

Record label: Sire SIR 4024
Producer: Roger Bechirian

Released: 28/09/79
Purchased: 1980

Not the greatest Undertones record ever released. They shift the focus from a poppy kick to a harder R&B undertone and Fergal gets all frugal with his distinctive warbling. Also the hook appears a little desperate in order to be catchy – listen for his stuttering on the first “wanna” of the chorus. Unlikely to make particularly lively radio. (NME, 06/10/79)
