OMD | Joan Of Arc | Dindisc | 1981 | Another pompous title, and another tender mood. it’s not particularly striking on first hearing, but perhaps it’s a “grower” (Rock Talk), like “Souvenir”. I hope that OMD aren’t resigning their role as electronic popsters supreme to the divine Depeches altogether; I prefer them in a less-soft focus mood. (Record Mirror, 17/10/81)
After playing “Joan Of Arc” by OMD I don’t have the overwhelming urge I suppose I should have to play it again. I expect – yes, I do – more from OMD, but they appear to be spitefully set on becoming the witless stainless wimps enemies erroneously used to suggest they were. I think they’ve gone mad.
